Install the Optical Drive

An optical drive is a storage device that reads and writes information to CDs and DVDs. A Molexpower connector provides the optical drive with power from the power supply. A PATA cable connects the optical drive to the motherboard.

Follow these steps for optical drive installation:

Step 2. Insert the optical drive into the drive bay so that the optical drive screw holes align with the screw holes in the case.

Step 3. Secure the optical drive to the case using the proper screws.

    1. Power down your computer and disconnect all of the cables and power cords from it. Open the case of your computer and identify an available 5.25 inch drive bay.
    2. Remove the front bezel from the drive bay you have chosen and then slowly remove any additional expansion cards or components from the area surrounding the drive bay.
    3. Place the optical drive into the drive bay carefully, ensuring that all of the mounting holes are lined up properly. Secure the optical drive to the drive bay with four or six screws.
    4. Plug in the power connector and data cable to the optical drive. You may find a corresponding port on your motherboard for the data cable. Otherwise, you'll need to locate an available SATA or IDE data port on your motherboard.
    5. Close the computer case, reconnect all of the cables and power cords and then power up the computer. If the optical drive is functioning correctly, it will appear in My Computer once the operating system has loaded.
