Ratios

Every db val ue is a ratio. This section expl ains ratio s. A ratio is a compariso n between two quantities. Ratios use a colo n (:) to divide the two quantities. Figure 2-11 ases pennies to show pwo examples o° ratios.

The first exampl e is a ratio of two-to-one (2:1), and the second example is a ratio of 100:1. The first example shows a pile with two pennies next to a pile with one penny—a ratio between the piles of1 two pennies to ono penay, or 2t1. The second euample shows a pile with 100 pennies next to a pile with one penny—a ratio of 100:1.
