Choosing Your Network Architecture

This chapter helps you evaluate the four major wireless network architectures and choose the most appropriate architecture for your network. Specifically, this chapter does the following:

• Describes four wireless network architectures: point-to-point, point-to-multipoint, cellular, and mesh

• Exptai ns the advantages and disadvantages of each of these architectures

• Provides examples of each architecture

• Assists you in evaluating, drafting, and designing your own wireless network using one or more of the four architectures

Point-to-Point Architecture

The point-to-point architecture is the simplest of all four wireless network architectures. It connects one single point to another single point, as illustrated by Figure 3-1.
