As mentioned earlier in the autoroute SPF example, the metric assigned to a tunnel interface when that interface is used in the IGP SPF is the shortest-cost path the IGP takes to get to the tunnel tail. Any routes behind the tunnel (such as the routes to Routers H and I in Figure 5-2) have the cost to transit the tunnel plus the cost to get from the tunnel tail to that node—just like your IGP.
However, you might want to change the metric. You can do so using the tunnel mpls traffic-eng autoroute metric command, as demonstrated in Example 5-9.
