How to Play with the TE Tunnel Metric

As mentioned earlier in the autoroute SPF example, the metric assigned to a tunnel interface when that interface is used in the IGP SPF is the shortest-cost path the IGP takes to get to the tunnel tail. Any routes behind the tunnel (such as the routes to Routers H and I in Figure 5-2) have the cost to transit the tunnel plus the cost to get from the tunnel tail to that nodeā€”just like your IGP.

However, you might want to change the metric. You can do so using the tunnel mpls traffic-eng autoroute metric command, as demonstrated in Example 5-9.
