Verifying That Traffic Is Really Going Down the Tunnel

If everything checks out, how do you know that traffic is actually entering the tunnel? You can check this by following these two steps:

• Check the interface tunnel accounting

• Check output counters or accounting on the outbound (downstream) physical interface to make sure the traffic is actually leaving the router

Before you check the interface tunnel accounting, it is a good idea to clear the counters, as shown in Example 11-55. Example 11-55 Clearing Tunnel1 Counters mpls-7200a#clear counters tunnel 1
