Default Routes

A default route is a gateway of last resort, when no other more specific route exists in the routing table. It is configured with representing the network address and the use of a valid Layer 3 next hop address.

You can define a maximum of three default routes in the same security domain. If multiple default routes exist, the traffic is distributed based on the specified gateways.

To configure a default route, enter the following command:

hostname(config)# route if_name gateway_ip [distance]

NOTE The default route used in the FWSM in transparent mode is for the management traffic only.
